Security Alert: Fraudulent Text Messages Targeting Credit Union Members
Tallaght and District Credit Union is urging all members to remain vigilant this Christmas as a number of sophisticated scams are currently circulating nationwide. These scams are specifically designed to imitate trusted financial institutions, including credit unions, with the goal of capturing personal and account information.
Please take a moment to read and share this information with family members or anyone who may be vulnerable to such tactics.
Fraudulent SMS
People have reported receiving text messages appearing to come from a trusted credit union source. These messages direct recipients to a website disguised as a secure https link. However, this link leads to a fraudulent website created to gather sensitive information.
What to do:
If you receive any unexpected message directing you to log in, confirm details, or complete an urgent action—delete it immediately. Do not click any links.
Scam Text Message: “New Payee Added”
Another scam involves a text message claiming that a new payee has been added to your account. The text will prompt you to call a number if you did not authorise this.
These texts are fraudulent.
What to do:
Do not call the number provided and do not share any information.
Be Vigilant
Remember Tallaght and District Credit Union will never ask you to click a link in a text message to verify details.
We will never request PINs, passwords, one-time codes, or any sensitive information by SMS or phone.
If you are ever unsure, please contact Tallaght and District Credit Union using our official phone number or email – never the number provided in a suspicious message.
